| Terms of
Use: Based on the publication dates
of the songbooks listed below being prior to
1923, I believe the books (and any songs they
contain) to be in the public domain in the United
States, due to their U.S. copyrights having
expired, but you are responsible for determining
whether anything you wish to do with the songs is
legal. Please note that there may be other
arrangements of these songs and/or sound
recordings of these songs which are NOT in the
public domain and that in some cases songs which
are in the public domain in the U.S. may not be
in the public domain in certain other countries.
I am unable to give legal advice - If you want
legal advice, you should consult a qualified
attorney. All of the jpeg images of the songs
were digitized by me (Ted Kuik) from the source
material cited. If
you'd like some general information on copyright
and the public domain, you might want to visit
the U.S. Copyright Office website. Cornell University also has a nice copyright information center with an informative chart relating to when various items are
under copyright and when they enter the public
domain. I have also found the book The Public Domain: How to Find & Use Copyright-Free Writings, Music, Art & More by Stephen Fishman
to be useful in this area.
